I told myself "you can mess about with DW for exactly half an hour, and then it's off to bed", so this entry may not be entirely thought out. Please forgive typos and other nonsense. Here goes!

Top 5 travel destinations - [personal profile] falena

But, wait. Does this mean the top 5 I've been to, or top 5 I want to visit?

These are just in the order that they occurred to me, there's no particular ranking. )

It is summer!

- Back from the trip to the U.S. One month of awesome! (I have many questions. And a lot of video.)

- When we got back, my adopted brother from Germany, Lennart, was at the airport to meet us! Hooray! I knew he'd been visiting my parents, but I didn't know he'd still be around for me to get to see him properly.

- Harvest started today. I'm still way too jetlagged for this.

- Lidl now sells the "Fruit & Fiber" cereal that I used to eat for breakfast and lunch while in England. THIS IS A JOYOUS THING.

- Why did I not know about Misfits? It's a fantastic show. Is there fandom? Is there fic? It's fantastic. Did I mention it's fantastic? It's fantastic.

- There will be a huge shindig on the weekend. Youngest uncle's birthday will be celebrated at our house, and everyone is set on making things Memorable. Regardless of youngest uncle repeatedly, and quite loudly, asking them not to. This lead to stress and various people un-friending each other on facebook. (There was more to it, but that's where I stopped listening.)

- Home sweet home!

- Work at the little hospital starts on Monday.

So, we're well into November, almost out on the other side. I am busy, but not particularly unhappy about it. The other day I sent in an application for an exchange period in Québec for next fall. We'll see how that goes. No one else has applied for that particular spot, but there's just two or three places available, so it won't take many applications before there'll be competition. I don't want there to be competition. I want to go to Québec and make a fool of myself trying to communicate in Erasmus French with Québecois speakers.

I wanted to make a voice post the other day, but it seems that my skills at that haven't improved. I'm now completely sure that the problem is me, because this is a completely new laptop with a snazzy in-built microphone, and a snazzy headset, and STILL. I couldn't make either work without this weird background noise, I don't even know what it is. Is it feedback? Is it "I'm a microphone and I make this sound when I'm turned on" noise? What is it? What can I do?

Does anyone want a Christmas card? Let me know!

I started watching Terra Nova and Lost Girl )

And, finally:

Old meme. Saw it on [personal profile] sugar_cookie's journal, caught the bug.

You can learn a lot about someone by the music they listen to. Hit shuffle on your Pod or mp3 player Spotify and write down the first 20 songs. No cheating or skipping songs that are shameful. That is the fun! (I skipped repeated artists)

Back!

Feeling all sorts of disoriented. There are so many things to catch up on online, I don't even know where to start. My room is a mess. Most of my clothes are 250 km away, along with my sneakers, leaving me with only sandals and winter boots to wear in autumn weather.

Italy was amazing. )

A few friends from Hungary are visiting until Tuesday. They arrived while we were still away, and got to spend half their holiday by themselves in our apartment. Because, yes, I will forget I have friends coming over, and take off for Italy two days before. I also forgot to tell our third flatmate that there will be people in the apartment, so when she got back from Iceland, there were strangers in the kitchen.

Proud of myself, I am not. The level un-organized that my life has reached is a little scary. I don't even know where to start untangling it all.

Today is the Orientation party for the new exchange students. I'm blissfully un-involved with the exchange student network this semester, so I plan to mostly just pop in and look at all the new faces, and possibly feel a little old. Most likely me and the Hungarians will spend the evening playing Munchkin and drinking pálinka (rasberry and honey flavour, because evil can often appear sweet). This is not at all a bad thing.

I love returning from trips. The un-packing is not so much fun, but nothing says "welcome home" like an inbox full of random messages. I feel loved.

The trip was amazing. It was informative, educational, and on occasion deeply moving. And lots of fun.

I listened, I learned, and I took pictures. I saw reindeer, elk, bear and wolf, and the kind of environmental destruction that they used to warn us about on Captain Planet. I got a little bit of practice on my feeble, feeble russian and read lots of cyrillic. I'm brushed up on the Lapland War and learned entirely new things about Operation Barbarossa that had never occurred to me before. I saw a ghost town - or a very good imitation of a post-apocalyptic wasteland - and I saw the Arctic Ocean, and I spent lots of time on a bus and didn't see the sun set for five days.

If there's any interest, I could do a more detailed travel post with pictures and such. My notebook turned into something of a travel journal, so I do have quite a lot I'd like to type up.

The thing I wanted to write about here and now, though, is my kindergarten adventure )
