THIS.

Okay, it's in Finnish. But yay for politically involved blogger-person making long, cranky, and yet well thought out and informative post. Finland, all hope is not lost! <3

And on another note:

Today the book that holds all our reservations promised that we had no bookings. And then two people on bikes showed up in the yard. Dad, it seems, had forgotten to write it down. He'd booked the room that currently houses my great-aunt Hillevi.

The bikers got another (better) room for a cheaper price and were very happy about our mix up. It's nice that business is good and all... but I can't help but feel dissapointed. I'd been looking forward to a tourist-free day all week. Le sigh.

And - My cousin's kid Otto is the cutest 15-year-old in the whole world! He looks exactly like Brother did at that age, and he even has some of the same mannerisms. He's all big eyes and mop of blonde hair, and he's trying so hard to be a grown up and be taken seriously.

We had a conversation about how annoyed we are that Radio Rock doesn't come through on the station properly even in downtown Porvoo, and how weird it is that the barn radio will still pick it up in the middle of the forest. I nodded and conversed and was very proper, but in my head I was just making "squee" sounds and fighting the urge to pinch his cheek.

I don't care how old he gets, that boy is always going to be the little thing that followed me and Sister around, who needed to get picked up twice as often as the others because he would burst into tears at the drop of a hat. <3 And now he headbanged with me to a System of a Down track, and knows how to wield a heinähanko! (... is the translation of that word really "pitchfork"? It sounds so malevolent.)

- 8 cups of coffee.
- 4 pages about unemployment in France.
- Finland won the Ice Hockey World Championships.

It's 2 o'clock in the morning, and I find myself over-caffeinated, nervous about tomorrows presentation, and in a building where there seems to be a party going on in every single flat.

Tonight, I think, I will not sleep. (But that's ok. Because we really did win the championships. Hasn't happened since 1995. Hockey is serious business.)

I originally wanted to try making a voice post here, but it seems my mic (which is actually my webcam) is of very, very poor quality. The recording is echo-y and scratchy, and I'm pretty sure it would be cruel of me to make you listen to it. Still, it's a bummer. I spend all this time building up the courage - and when I finally have it, the universe tells me I'm not allowed. So, here's a regular, non-voice, un-meme-y post instead:

I like Sundays. I spend it on the couch, under a blanket, cradling a bowl of yogurt and watching shows. There's the new Dr Who, new SPN, new Community, new Game of Thrones. All freshly caught from the internet and ready to be enjoyed.

Today is 1st of May, which means yesterday was last of April. Which, around here at least, means Vappu. Copious drinking, loud music, milling crowds... It's like Christmas for students. Depending on your mood, it's either fantastic, or an apocalypse where the zombies all wear graduation hats and throw up a lot.

I woke up feeling generally cranky, and my mood got steadily worse as I realized that I was a day late in shopping for barbecue supplies and the stores had mostly been emptied out. Oh, and it was hailing. Not even rain. Hail. I was all set on sulking my way through the entire day - but for once my inability to stick to any sort of plan worked in my favor.

It was an overall very nice day. We got hold of a mini-bbq, the weather cleared up, I got to see almost everyone I'd hoped to, and I managed to drink in that proper, grown up way that means I don't have to be embarrassed about anything today. (Though I did run into a classmate with whom we thought it would be a good idea to try balancing half-full pints of cider on our heads. In retrospect, that could have ended badly.)

I went out for the first time in what feels like months, and it was a perfect mix of good music (because, yes, there is a club in my city that plays that, though I wouldn't mind if it were a little heavier) and good people. And I fit into a dress I've not had the confidence to wear in a long time. It has polka dots.

SPN 6x19. Spoilery squeeing. )

I wanted to share an article.

It's on the Finnish parliamentary elections, but it's in English! And it's a pretty good article, too. So, you know, if there's anyone out there who is interested, you can read that. If for no other reason than because it can give some context to my occasional rants following the brain-breaking circus of asshattery that was our latest election.

(Se kannattaa, Kati, ihan oikeasti lukea. Viimeiset kappaleet piristi ainakin mun päivää.)
