15 days, 5 things
Feb. 19th, 2011 05:41 pmI felt like doing something meme-y. The wonderful
tinypinkmouse showed me this. It's going to take 15 days! Very exciting business.
5 basic facts about you.
1. My eyes are brown, just like my hair.
My hair also rejects almost any other colour I try to change it to. The dye stays for a month at most, but usually starts to wash away almost immediately.
2. I speak fluent Finnish, English and Swedish.
I also code-switch frequently and shamelessly between the three. I even do it when I know it wouldn't be entirely appropriate, with the result of sometimes coming off as a bit of either a moron or a show off, depending on the situation.
3. I have a skin allergy that makes my hands occasionally get these gross blisters.
This is the result of exposure to some heavy duty cleaning chemicals in 2006. The whole thing is very uncomfortable, and I complain about it a lot. I usually refer to them as "bubbles".
4. I'm 168cm long.
This is neither particularly tall nor particularly short. I suspect that on some level, I'm envious of people who fall into one category or the other. I dislike being bland.
5. I wear a size 39-40 shoe.
Try as I might - and believe me, I've tried - I can't figure out how to walk in heels. I can pull off a kitten heel, but anything higher than that, and my walk turns into an awkward shuffle. I realise that in some shoes (for women) you aren't supposed to be able to run or jump comfortably, but I can't bring myself to be ok with that. This is a bummer, because shoes are awesome.

THIS. THIS SO MUCH. I do that all the time with precisely the same consequences. Thanks for putting it down in words so concisely. Thing is I don't do intentionally, most of the time, sometimes my brain just refuses to co-operate with me.

Date: 2011-02-19 06:40 pm (UTC)And yay for code-switching! Or head-desk... :P I've gotten a lot more sensitive to it over the past few years, but trying to stop feels like too much of a hassle. It's sort of embarrassing when it happens around "serious" people though. Or at work. I'm lucky most of my friends bilingual in some way or other, so it's not that uncommon here. I suppose it's a little different in Italy? Unless people switch between dialect and standard a lot?

Well, the thing is most of my friends know me so they don't give me too much grief and most of my colleagues are bilingual. But as a general rule, Italians are not bilaigual and younger Italians don't speak dialects at all, so yeah, I suppose most people who are not close friends probably think I'm a terrible show-off. :(
