There was a meme on
applegeuse's journal. I can't resist memes, so here goes.
1. Five ways to my heart.
2. Something I feel strongly about.
3. A book I love.
4. Things I want to say to an ex.
5. Five pet peeves.
6. What I ate today.
7. How important I think education is.
8. I'll put my music player on shuffle and write the first ten songs that play.
9. Five guys whom I find attractive.
10. My opinion about my body and how comfortable I am with it.
11. What I wore today.
12. My zodiac/horoscope and if I think it fits my personality.
13. Something I always think "what if..." about.
14. Something that I'm proud of.
15. A problem I have had.
16. Five items I lust after.
17. My fears.
18. What I hope my future will be like.
19. Something that I miss.
20. Five words/phrases that make me laugh.
21. Something I'm currently worrying about.
22. Things I like and dislike about myself.
23. A quote I try to live by.
24. Somewhere I'd like to move to or visit.
25. Five weird things that I like.
26. One thing I'm excited for.
In other news. I am a computer genius who has figured out how to convert .mts files .avi. Yes, this is an achievement.
Here at home, there are apples everywhere, filling up basket after basket on the porch. There is apple jam and apple juice and apple pie, and some sort of... apple experiment that I'll ask mom about once she gets home. I think it might be jello. The best thing in the world is cold apple jam on warm porridge, and milk. This is not a low-carb dish, and will yet be the death of me.
It hasn't stopped raining since I got here, but that's actually ok. It's a reason to drink tea. Do miss the dogs terribly. Apple season used to be a lot harder - Naxu and Maggie both liked to steal and eat the apples from the baskets. Sirius would just steal and run with it, because she liked it when people shouted "hey!" after her.
I think maybe I'm nearing that point where I want a puppy. (I get snappy at anyone who asks me about it, but I think I'll be ready soon.) Mostly I just want my dog, but since I can't have that... I think maybe a puppy wouldn't be too bad.
Oh, and!
Lafayette and Jesus are the best couple. And I just know Marnie!Lafayette is going to get someone killed. Maybe Jesus. Or they might break up! Please, show, don't do this to me! Please?
Also - yay! Eric is back! And Sookie really should be allowed to have them both. And the Bellefleur boys are just too precious. Season 4, I like you!

Date: 2011-09-09 10:52 am (UTC)It is! /says the technologically-challenged girl.
I want to know about the apple experiment. And now I'd really like to try cold apple jam on warm porridge, and milk. Sounds yummy.
I think maybe a puppy wouldn't be too bad.
Aw. Puppies!<3
Can I have 20 and/or 23 for the meme?

Date: 2011-09-09 12:55 pm (UTC)'Sometimes I think that truth is a place. In my mind, it is like a city: there can be a hundred roads, a thousand paths, that will take you, eventually, to the same place. It does not matter where you come from. If you walk toward the truth, you will reach it, whatever path you take.'
Calum MacInnes looked down at me and said nothing. Then,
'You are wrong. The truth is a cave in the black mountains. There is one way there, and one only, and that way is treacherous and hard, and if you choose the wrong path you will die alone, on the mountainside.'
I obsess about concepts like "truth". I've grown up with a strong story-teller tradition, and I believe in a - shall we say - dynamic translation of reality. I'm forever trying to find the balance between being imaginative and being a liar. :P
Nr 20 is difficult!
1. Puns. They say its the lowest form of humour, but there you go :P
2. Bad translation word games! Dad and I excel at this. It's the best thing about knowing both Finnsh and Swedish. For example, the word "tändstickor" (matches) in our house is now known as "kommstickor" (camesticks... which doesn't mean anything, and yet sounds dirty in English, and isn't that just weird O.o) because the Finnish of the word is "tulitikut", where "tuli" means both "fire" and "to come" in the past tense. Uhm... see? Funny. No, really. It is. We have tonnes of these.
3. A good 50-70% of my conversations with Lillanna. Luckily, she writes the best ones down, so we have a collection on our wall of such jewels as:
"I have a beef with you!"
"Well that's good! Because I only had a bone to pick!"
and
"Snow good. Summer bad." (Though what she was trying to say was "'S no good. Some 're bad.")
4. Stand up. I love stand up. André Wickström especially. Oh, oh! And this Youtube clip
5. Youtube clips with laughing babies. I'm like a moron, I laugh when they laugh, I can't even control it. It's embarrassing.

Date: 2011-09-09 02:36 pm (UTC)Story-telling beats sticking to the truth, in my opinion (when it's not serious business, of course).
1. I love puns - part of the reason why I like English so much is that it's so much easier to make puns, than, for example, Italian.
2.OMG bad translation word games. You and your dad, could you please adopt me?!? I want to live with you guys and make bad translation puns myself. You're my long-lost biological family, quite obviously.
3. You two are such comedians. <3
4. Mmm, not too keen on stand up comedy, but maybe I've never found my kind of comedian?
6. Aw. You're too sweet.

Date: 2011-09-10 09:34 am (UTC)Ok, nr 8! My music tastes are ridiculously varied. I usually have a lot of different playlists, but now I shuffled my entire Spotify library, so this might come out pretty schizophrenic. XD
1. Queen - Calling All Girls
2. CMX - Melankolia
3. J. Karjalainen & Mustat Lasit - Viimeinen laulu
4. Rage Against the Machine - Township Rebellion
5. Don Huonot - Olemme kuin veljet
6. Black Sabbath - Changes
7. Tom Waits - Diamonds and Gold
8. YUP - Intiaanit ymmärtävät
9. Flogging Molly - Every Dog Has Its Day
10. Fiona Apple - Sullen Girl

Date: 2011-09-09 12:20 pm (UTC)We got our second dog just two months after our first one died. The little bugger was just 9 weeks old at the time. I fell head over heels in love with him, but was worried that I wasn't ready yet and that we moved on too soon. Looking back, I can honestly say that Dino (our second doggie) has helped us tremendously. Having a puppy is a lot of work and gives you constant distraction. It did us a world of good.
You'll know when you're ready. And when you are and you bring a puppy into your home, it will make you smile. I promise. (;

Date: 2011-09-10 09:46 am (UTC)Ok, nr 16. *thinks hard*
1. An xbox 360 OR Playstation 3. Preferrably with the latest Final Fantasy, and SingStar.
2. A car. (Not that I actually need it. Mostly I'm fine without one - but on the few occasions I would've needed it, it would've made life SO much easier.)
3. Season box sets of several TV-shows. Supernatural, Dollhouse, Dr Who etc. I like director's commentaries, and I like watching shows with proper subtitles - my downloaded versions seldom have either.
4. A pair of Vagabond shoes. I almost don't care what kind - I just know that I'd like them to be leather, and to be comfortable and look nice for every day use. I have a lot of shoes, but they're without exception very cheap, not very good quality, and at least half of them can't be used for too long for risk of chafing.
5. A new computer or laptop. I've had my current one since 2003. She's getting a little... uhm... tired.

Date: 2011-09-10 10:37 am (UTC)But, ok. Best case scenario?
I graduate in the next few years, MA in English and BA in French. I move abroad for a few years - hopefully the States, because it's fascinating and alien - and I make friends and I have a job that has something do with language(s) and doesn't have an atmosphere of constant competition. I want to travel, and if I can manage it, I want to live in French-speaking country for a while as well.
That's about as far as I've gotten. Eventually I'll always come home to my village and family, and probably do what my parents do, minus the harvest. I like running the B&B, so maybe I'll do that, but not for at least a few decades. It requires a lot of staying home, and it means your weekends are always booked and your free days are tuesday through thursday, and your holidays are... well, there's not too many. So you can't feel restless when you run a place like that.
Oh, and I want big dogs. And kids, plural. Not necessarily a partner, though. My family is big enough that I can do without. But I don't really know when I'm supposed to have time with that, unless I can put a baby and a puppy in a backpack. I don't know, I guess I'll have to see what happens. I'm not a particularly ambitious person, though. In the end it doesn't matter what I do or where I am, as long as I'm surrounded by people I mostly enjoy being around. The rest is just a bonus.

Date: 2011-09-12 02:38 pm (UTC)Beyond that, pay off debt, have some spare money from time to time. Maybe eventually be able to do more with my writing. That's about all the goals I really have. LOL.
