I've been taking Maggie to the same vet station for the 6 years that I've had her. I love my vet station. They speak both Finnish and Swedish, they have specialists, they always give you all the information, they're polite and efficient and (since last year) within easy reach.

But why does it have to near bankrupt me every time I go there? I just dished out 277€. That's more than my rent. And about 70€ more money than I actually had in my account. (They were very nice about that too, btw, and gave me a bill to take home instead and didn't give me dirty looks or anything.)

I'm not really complaining here. I know this is how it works. It just sucks to be broke, is all.

Concerning the reason I had to take Mags to the vet, well, we'll see. They did scans and blood work, and gave me medicine to help her. They're not entirely sure what's wrong, but I won't go into details about symptoms because I doubt anyone really wants to read about that.

I'm pretty nervous, but I trust that they wouldn't have sent us home if she was in real danger. I'm supposed to call them if things get worse or if nothing seems to have changed by tomorrow. And on Monday we've got another appointment to check out her hind legs because she's getting old and is a huge dog. I want everything to be ok. I don't know how to express how badly I want everything to be ok.

Me too. :/ First they took the pictures and were all "ok, sillä on tosi paljon kaasua mahassa. kyseessä saattaa olla munuaisen vajaatoiminta" (at which point I was very much feeling like going into full-on panic mode) but then the blood work came back completely clean. So they went with that it's probably a tulehdus in the vatsalaukku. (But did not rule out fun stuff like tumor or foreign object, though they didn't show up in the picture.)

She got anti-nausea medicine, some stuff to get her bowels moving, super sensitive food and antibiotics. And, ok, she's not throwing up any more and she's eating and drinking, but she keeps having these spasms every time she lies down. Spasms, man!

I called vettori this morning and went "my dog is having spasms, please tell me that's normal?" and they told me to calm down, because the meds might not have started working yet, and I should call raisio tomorro if things haven't changed by then. And oh yes, vatsalaukunkiertymä is a very big risk right now, so make sure she doesnt jump or run or roll over too much.

Do you know how much I would want a car right now? I swear, I'd be so much calmer if I just knew that if it came to it, I'd be able to have her in päivystys under 20 min.
