Randomly overheard on the bus:
The drink system here is so stupid. I've never seen anything like this in another country. Yesterday, I had to wait like half an hour at the bar to get a drink. At home, we always send the biggest, the loudest, you know, the most annoying to get the drinks.
Oh, exchange students. Welcome to the north. We do get violent and drunk, but damnit if we don't wait our turn for it first.
And in other news:
I HAVE A NEW LAPTOP! It is beautiful! It has the teeniest tiniest memory on its C-drive, but that's no kind of a problem really. I was already using my external hard drive for everything. I'm so pleased I could burst - I got my old laptop in 2003 as a graduation present. To say she was on her last leg would be understating the issue. Shouldn't speak ill of the dead, though! That old laptop served me for eight years - not many laptops have that kind of stamina. Dad is going to install Linux on her, so she's likely to run for another few years as his laptop.
I went to my parents' place for the weekend for a quick visit - partially to celebrate my upcoming birthday*, partially to pick up said new laptop, and partially to discuss the upcoming Family Trip. The choice was between Milan and Edinburgh, with everyone pretty much agreeing on Edinburgh as the better option.
We ended up deciding to go to Florence. It seemed logical at the time, though I forget why. Ah well. Going to Florence in October! (Hooray for Ryanair!)
(*We had karjalanpiirakoita with egg butter, and strawberry pie that was all raw and doughy, with caramel sauce. These rank in the top ten most delicious things found on the planet, just so you know.)
