I also tensed up the moment they said what was going on, expecting the worst. I think everything was going sort of ok-ish, until Gideon starts talking to the prisoner and they start "discussing" the Qu'ran and having faith and... there's supposed to be deeper levels of understanding.
It's just.. the show cannot pull it off! You can't pretend to have a dialogue with someone, when it's all from one perspective and - oh yes - the other person is chained to a chair.
